use of 3D-modelling techniques, based on industry standards such as MXROAD (from
Bentley Systems Inc.) or Civil3D (from Autodesk Inc.) complemented by a range of
productivity tools and a proven methodology.
DESIGN PHASE
3D-design & highway engineering – we have extensive experience
in 3D-design of highway geometry, according to national design standards. We apply
a proven workflow system to document and control general design standards and project-specific
criteria.
3D-modelling and landscaping – our modelling expertise is also
applicable for multi-layer and non-linear designs, such as; coastal protection,
landscape design of earthworks, golf course design.
3D-analysis – the 3D-models provide a central source of information
for applications such as; traffic simulation, driver visibility, rainfall runoff,
bridge clearing, noise & pollution analysis.
Quantity calculations – by extending the 3D-models, for cut & fill
earthworks and road foundation & pavement layers, we are able to derive very accurate
quantities, in particular volumetrics.
BUILD PHASE
3D construction quantities – 3D design models offer the (only)
reliable basis to extract accurate construction quantities. The models, and all
derived quantities, reflect the detailed staging of the construction planning.
4D/5D-modelling – we developed a method to link a project plan
to the 3D construction models (4D=3D+time) and then to simulate the proposed construction
process in an animation. This is instrumental to identify conflicts in space and
time and to optimise the staging of the projects across all engineering disciplines.
By relating production rates to the quantities of each stage we can generate a cost-curve
of the project. This 5th dimension is key while tendering for complex projects,
with many construction alternatives and cost parameters, to keep track of the most
cost-effective solution projected in time.
Set-out & Machine Control data – the 3D construction models are
an ideal source of geometric information to set out the design on site or, as is
increasingly the case, to feed reliable Machine Control data directly to construction
equipment with advanced positioning systems.
Site Engineering – we can implement a methodology to improve project
management control of key project parameters related to cost, quality and time.
This approach is based on the creation of 3D as-built models from control surveys
and comparing this data to the theoretical design models. Our Site Engineers assist
this process from the construction office by generating Project Control Information
geared to the specific project requirements.
Project Control Information – our Site Engineers were involved in collecting, analysing and managing critical project information
to the benefit of all project functions: quantity and quality monitoring, progress reporting, transport and plant statistics, stock and billing control.
